The Vertigo Films production follows a London dance crew while they train for the UK Street Dance Championships as they are forced to work with ballet dancers from the Royal Dance School in return for rehearsal space. With no common ground and with passions riding high, they realise they need to find a way to join forces to win.

The British film achieved moderate success when it was released on May 21st 2010. It was produced in association with BBC Films and has a 84% "fresh" rating from Rotten Tomatoes. The success led Vertigo Films to produce a sequel which will be released in the summer of 2012.

Two 3D broadcasts within a couple of weeks marks an interesting period for the BBC who had previously taken a cautious approach to stereoscopic broadcasting. The BBC will also be broadcasting the Wimbledon Tennis Championships and the London Olympics in 3D next year.

StreetDance 3D will be broadcast New Year’s Day at 18.25 on the BBC HD channel.
