Personalised 3D printed snowmen service wraps up
Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino from Shoreditch design partnership RIG and Andy Huntington have just wrapped up an innovative service where Twitter users could order their own personalised 3D printed snowman.
Frstee.com invited people to input their Twitter name. The website then looked at how many followers the person had and how long they had been operating the account, using the data to personalise a 3D snowman.
The more followers – the bigger the snowman's head and the buttons down the front of the snowman represented the number of years the account had been active for. The owner's Twitter username was also embedded at the bottom of the snowman.
The data was turned into a unique 3D design file generated using RhinoScript by Andy Huntington and then 3D printed at Inition on their Zcorp machine which makes individual 3D objects by applying glue to a bed of powder to make a durable solid object. Colour was applied to eyes, nose and buttons and the whole thing was cured to make it long-lasting.
Presumably there was a limit to the number of followers. With over 17 million followers, imagine the size of Lady Gaga’s personalised 3D snowman's head!
