There will also be a special closing night live performance by Quincy Jones and the Global Gumbo Allstars in the form of a live 3D concert.

It is the world’s largest all-digital 3D film, music, and interactive festival and for 2012 has moved to Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14. The festival opens Thursday, September 20th with multiple world premiere red carpet screening events starting at 8pm and 10pm. The Opening Night Gala event takes place at L.A. LIVE’s Club Nokia later that evening following the World Premiere screening of the thriller Spiders 3D, directed by Tibor Tackács.

The opening night documentary premiere will be 'Experience Montreux in 3D' – a film about the Montreux Jazz Festival featuring live performances and interviews with contemporary and indie artists. The film has been heralded as ‘the best 3D music film ever produced” by critics.

“Director David Barnard captured a mix of visual elements and Montreux charm by combining the energy and spirit of Montreux in a wonderfully immersive stereoscopic world. The film embraces the 3D medium and makes the viewer feel like they are in the front row of the concert,” commented GRAMMY Award Winning Producer Sheira Rees-Davies, one of the producers on the film along with Frank Dreyer, who spearheaded the project in cooperation with HELLO! and The Dream Factory for Nagra/Kudelski Group, Eagle Rock Entertainment and The Montreux Jazz Festival.

Reprising his role as Celebrity Host of the Festival for a third year is actor/director Thomas Jane (Hung), who commented, “The art of 3D Filmmaking continues to grow, & 3DFF is humbled and honoured to host multiple film and music legends at this year’s event along with their exciting new 3D movies, which are some of the best natively shot indie-3D films that the Festival has ever seen in its line-up.  We wish all the 3DFF Filmmakers this year best of luck in the competition and we encourage you to continue making great 3D content.”

In all, there will be more than 60 Digital Artists and 3D Filmmakers as well as the more than 30 live music artists who will be showcasing their work in 3D at the festival.

Doors will open at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm (PDT) start for the new one-hour 3DFF Pre-Show featuring a roundup of preview clips and trailers from Hollywood studios. The pre-show program will also feature the world premiere of Katy Perry’s Wide Awake music video in 3D; plus footage from Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 3D and a trailer from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.

There will be a midnight screening of DREDD 3D, presented by Lionsgate and Regal Cinemas and 3D game enthusiasts can visit the LG 3D Game Truck and five different LG Cinema 3D TV and Game Lounges. Each lounge will be outfitted as an ultimate home theatre with the latest 3D movie trailers and games.
