DSE 2014 – Sands Convention Center from 3D Film Connection on Vimeo.

4 days of seminars and 2 days of Expo – top trends were in touch, thin bezel, video wall and gesture.

Kintec Digital Technology applies non switchable parralax barrier film at their factory and had 7" and 5" examples. With lower resolution than other available tablets (Neo3Do, Hampoo) the display had a screen door effect and was darkened by 30% from an already very reserved brightness. The 3D effect was great from 12" and by using the film the tablet was thin and potentially had a reduced battery consumption. Unfortunately 2D media and basic tablet browsing was overshadowed by the parallax barrier.

Stream TV had one of their 50" and one 55" 4k autostereo monitors showing in the Stampede booth. Another of the 50" displays was at the Crimson booth placed by the American Resellers over at 3D Film Connection / Neo3Do. The display was very clean, little to no morray, price point of $8,000 for business to business available at the link above. Stream TV still has a total focus on placing its technology within the consumer market by licensing their technology to big name 3D tv companies.

Magnetic 3D showed in the Dynasign booth. Huge pop out, very engaging, some screen door and some morray.

New for me was Custom Open Frame Displays. They had high priced open frame (not in a tv box) switchable parallax barrier based technology. I watched the same 10" dipslay play 2D, 3D, 5 view, 8 view and 9 view content by changing settings in their extremely complex control panel. In the back of the photo right under their sign was a semi translucent 3D display, it was not on the second day. I hope to see that improved next year.

Exceptional 3D had their own booth, all black, one small display and two larger ones, one of which was brand new. They said that they had been focusing their sales mostly in Asia.

Overall DSE was very small this year but the 3D presence was strong and showed promise in both affordability, higher resolution and ease of content creation and conversion.
