A special edition of The Gadget Show will feature Holoxica’s new interactive holographic display.

Producers of the Channel 5 show, which will focus on future technology such as jetpacks, 3D printing and flying cars, approached the Edinburgh based company to contribute to the package about holographic 3D displays.  Filming happened last month and presenter Jason was said to be very enthusiastic.

He was shown the company’s latest holographic display prototype which can present 3D objects in mid-air, and be manipulated in real-time via a Kinect motion interface.

People are able to ‘touch’ icons in space and draw in mid-air using ‘AirDraw’ – one of about ten apps written for it including a pong style game, a counter, a keypad and a meter.

Jason was also shown the ETDE Biolab design, Anatomy and a Boxing Ring image. They brought in members of the public for the presenter to discuss what they thought about the holograms.  The full colour holograms can be walked around 360 degrees.

You will be able to watch the Future Tech special edition on Mon 25th March 2013 at 19:00 on Channel 5.

Khan says: “Immediate applications include head-up displays (HUDs) and novel user interfaces with an added dimension. The automotive industry is always interested in this type of technology.”

If you want to see the display for yourself you can visit the Gadget Show Live who gave the founders of Holoxica a free 6x3m stand to present Zebra Imaging products, now they have become an official distributor for the digital hologram company.
Holoxica will use the Gadget Show Live to present a series of their latest designs using Zebra's holoprinters.

Looking to the future Javid Khan says: “The next digital holograms will be bigger and better and we're working on further medical, astronomy and engineering designs. The current holographic display will be similarly improved. We are also working on a next gen display, for which we recently won a grant award from the UK government Technology Strategy Board.  I feel that we have achieved a lot for a small company with limited resources. We must continue to innovate and offer extraordinary products and services to achieve things that nobody else has, together with our partners. We have a solid track record of breakthroughs in both our digital hologram designs and the holographic displays.”
