BBC announce three big budget 3D shows

BBC Earth has revealed a slate of three 3D natural history documentaries set for cinema release starting 2014.

The three titles are currently in production, the first of which, Amazing Bugs! 3D , is due for a 2014 cinema release.

The BBC announced the filmic programmes at the Giant Screen Conference in Sacramento today. In addition to the micro look at bugs, the BBC will release two further titles – The Wildest Place on Earth and Sharks! Rulers of the Seas 3D.

These will be in addition to two further BBC Earth Films in production with Evergreen Films and Reliance BIG Entertainment  – Walking with Dinosaurs 3D which will have its global release in December 2013, and Enchanted Kingdom 3D set for release in 2014. Both productions are distributed by IM Global.

Neil Nightingale, Creative Director of BBC Earth said: “For any film maker it’s exciting to see your content presented on such a grand scale and for a natural history cinematographer this has to be the ultimate canvas to display Earth’s wonders, it’s a fantastic opportunity.”
