3net announce first native 4K series
3net Studios has announced a ultraHD TV series called Space and the world’s first 3D motion comic series
These are the first products to be outputted from the newly formed production studios which is an offshoot of the 3D channel joint venture between Sony, Discovery and IMAX.
Space will be filmed by 4K cameras (3840 × 2160 or 8.3 megapixels). 3net have devised a term called “TotalD” which covers native 3D 4K, 2D 4K, 3D 2K and both 3D/2D HD formats and Space will be the outfit’s first TotalD series.
4K TV is set to be the next ‘big thing’ in television. BSkyB have been recently experimenting with 4K capture of sports events and the BBC have been trialling the technology. Most major TV manufactuers have revealed 4K sets. Samsung will be showcasing its latest 84-inch Ultra High Definition TV at the CES trade show next January. That will join Sony’s £25,000 KD-84X9005 4K TV and LG’s 84-inch class Ultra High Def LED TV, the 84LM9600 – a comparative bargain at £12,600.
Other programme announcements from 3net include Marksmen, which it is billing as "the world's first 3D motion comic series for television.", a documentary series Frozen In Time: Our History In 3D, the live action special Wingsuit Warrior: Jeb Corliss Vs. The World and the travelogue series Daydream.
"[Wednesday]'s announcement marks an important first step in our ongoing mission to meet the increasing global demand for high-quality, original 3D and 4K television content head on," noted 3net president and CEO Tom Cosgrove.
He also noted that they "look forward to expanding it as 3net Studios finalises its full 2013 development schedule."
