Toshiba have revealed details of the 9 Series, three 4K TVs ranging from 58” to 84” in size.
Three new models, in screen sizes of 213cm (84”), 165cm (65”) and 146cm (58”) will each support a resolution up to four times that of Full HD (3840 x 2160) as well as image upscaling.
Inside will be Toshiba’s CEVOTM 4K multi-processor to enhance clarity, sharpness and detail from UHD content. With over eight million megapixels natively, each screen can be viewed at closer distances without individual pixels being visible, creating a more realistic and immersive overall image.
Toshiba have also added 800 AMR (Active Motion & Resolution), Toshiba’s highspeed picture processing technology to display ultra-smooth images that maintain detail and minimise ghosting effects.
As 4K/Ultra HD is likely to be the next revolution in television, the manufacturers are introducing smaller sets to appeal to mass consumers. LG, who currently have a 84” Ultra HD for sale in John Lewis, London, announced 65” and 55” models at CES and Sony also plan to launch the same sized 4K equivalents.
That is not to say Toshiba have bypassed 3D. In fact, the company see 4K technology as a way of improving 3D picture quality with the range capable of displaying full HD 3D images per eye. The 84” and 65” models will use passive technology and the 55” will use active shutter technology.
Like previous flagship Toshiba televisions, the 9 Series also features a 2D-to-3D conversion tool, transforming 2D content from DVDs or Blu-ray™ Discs into 3D, in real-time. Depth Control also allows viewers to adjust the 3D effect to suit personal taste.
