Sphereo in the salt planes Orbotix announce sequel to robotic ball

Orbotix, the makers of Sphero, today announced the Sphero 2.0 – an app-controlled robotic ball and game system.

Compared to the original it is now faster (up to 7 feet per second) and 'smarter' than before with new 'AI Superdrive capabilities'. Included in the rollout are new accessories, including ramps and protective Nubby covers.

“The first time I drove Sphero 2.0, I passed out,” said Ian Bernstein, cofounder of Orbotix. It’s true – Sphero 2.0 has been re-engineered from the ground up to give the user an entirely new gaming experience."

It now has a more efficient drivetrain and lowered center of gravity. With new multicolor LEDs, Sphero 2.0 is 3x brighter than the original Sphero.

Included are two ramps that pop directly out of the packaging and the covers give the option of three different hues, whilst protecting the spinning robot against tough terrain.

There are now 25 from apps to choose from including augmented reality ones like The Rolling Dead and Sharky.

Pre-orders for Sphero 2.0 open today on GoSphero.com.
