Modelbox 3D on target to launch home 3D holographic printing
Modelbox 3D has reached 50% of its Kickstarter funding goal with two weeks still remaining to launch 3D art product.
ModelBox 3D is a 3D display that can appear to make colour 3D images float in an acrylic box using images printed from a regular 2D inkjet printer.
Should funding be achieved, which it is set to do, the LA based company “We Make Art Things” will provide the combination of software and hardware. Each kit will include with a frame to hold 28 inkjet or laser printable transparencies and the software to turn designs into a series of flat layers to print. Together they form a full 3D image that's viewable from both the front and back.
Suggestions for the ModelBox 3D include a unique interchangeable lamp, a way to show off a new product, or enhancing the prototyping and creative development process.

The ModelBox 3D was debuted at Maker Faire and won the Editor's Choice Blue Ribbon.
People will be able to upload their own work through an online generator or choose a pre-sliced and ready-to-print piece from a library. 3D (.OBJ) files, or digital 2D (.PSD, .JPG) layered image files can be uploaded and then the generated file can be printed out at home onto printable transparency sheets, cut it to size, and inserted into the ModelBox 3D frame.
