Manchester Airport Hologram Style Staff Start Duty Today
Holographic Style Staff in Manchester Airport Start Duty Today
The UK’s third busiest airport have started employing holographic style replicants that can work 24 hours a day without breaks, hangovers and pay.
Manchester Airport and high tech firm Musion have transformed existing airport employees Julie Caper and John Walsh into life sized holograms as part of a trial aimed at reducing security queues in terminal 1. The installations are located in the entrance to the security search area. The holograms are designed to remind passengers to have their boarding passes ready and explain the liquid restrictions as signs are often ignored or not noticed.
The holographic technology at Manchester Airport is called Musion EyeSay, a hologram video manniquin product. 2D video recordings of Julie Caper and John Walsh are projected from a box behind the hologram onto a high gain rear projection service which is a highly reflective thin foil. This is adhered to a clear acrylic service which is cut into the shape of the particular airport staff member. The technology can be used in high ambient areas such as an airport or retail setting.
Julie Capper said: "If our holograms help our passengers through the security process even quicker then it will be a good thing. I have to say it's strange to see yourself in virtual form and I'm hoping that I'll be able to rely on my virtual self to carry some of my workload. I wonder if I can send it to meetings in my place and whether anyone will notice."
James Rock, Founder of Musion hopes not only such hologram style systems will be installed all over the UK's airports but also all over the world. Other airports around the world are investigating their use and one can safely assume they will be watching the Manchester trial closely.
