Google and Qualcomm bite into Augmented Reality
By David Briggs – Stealth mode augmented reality start-up Magic Leap has raised $542 million in Series B financing. Google and Qualcomm led the round of financing, some of the other investors includeLegendary Entertainment, KKR, Vulcan Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Andreessen Horowitz and Obvious Ventures.
The Senior Vice President of Android and Chrome will be joining the Magic leap board of directors. “We are looking forward to Magic Leap’s next stage of growth, and to seeing how it will shape the future of visual computing,” he said.
Magic Leap’s President Rony Abovitz claims the company is working to advance beyond augmented and virtual reality and ultimately change the way people interact with the world around them. Althought Magic Leap is currently very secretive and vague about their offerings and their website feels very vapor, the investments made by these titans indicates they have some great stuff up their sleeves.
