LG Shows Off First THX Certified 3DTV

THX expand into 3D

The world famous THX brand is associated with premium quality movie theatre audio but THX are hoping their brand can also be associated with high end 3D picture quality.

THX have been working on a 3D certification called THX Certified Display.

What is a THX Certified 3D Display?

The THX certification process consists of over 400 tests in labortory conditions measuring cross talk, colour accuracy, viewing angles and video processing performance. THX are keen to stress that THX certification means a great 2D telly too with super sharp images.

THX Optimised settings

THX certification also offers three settings – THX Cinema: Reproduction of accurate color used by filmmakers in the studio.THX Bright Room: Bright Room Mode sets luminance, color, blacks, and gamma for typical bright room conditions and THX 3D Cinema: Sets luminance, color, blacks, gamma and video processing for 3D broadcasts and Blu-ray Discs.

The first company to achieve THX status is Sky’s favourite LG. The new LG INFINIA PX950 Plasma Series are the world’s first TVs that have what it takes to achieve THX 3D Display certification. During the 3D Experience conference in Times Square I got the chance to see one.  Check out the video.
