3D Content Hub signs big VOD deal in China
Chinese 3D TV owners now have even more to watch thanks to a deal between YOU 3D On Demand and one of the largest 3D content distributors.
New York based YOU On Demand already operate a VOD platform in China but have recently launched a 3D service, with short test 3D content.
The full YOU 3D On Demand service will now be able to offer its customers high quality full length 3D programming after signing a deal with 3D Content Hub. The company boasts a large catalogue of 3D content by specialising exclusively on the stereoscopic format and titles such as the award winning "Timescapes: A View in America," "Microplanet," and "Alligator Kingdom," will be available through YOU On Demand's Transactional Video On Demand (TVOD) and Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) services. The titles will be available in HD 2D as well.
"We are thrilled to be working with 3D Content Hub as we launch our 3D service, YOU 3D On Demand in China," said Shane McMahon, Chairman and CEO of YOU On Demand. "Our goal is to be the ultimate destination for the entertainment experience in the home."
YOU On Demand has a projection of 11 million subscribers by the end of the year and the service is available through digital cable which the Chinese government has spent billions on upgrading to be the best in the world. 100% digital TV coverage is forecasted for 2015. The YOU On Demand 3D package, which includes shows from 3net, is 10RMB per month (about £1).
Speaking to 3D Focus, Torsten Hoffman, Founder of 3D Content Hub, said "Not only on the theatrical screens but also in the Home 3D is progressing well in China. There are already many low priced 3DTVs available to the consumers and we are in a good position to fill the content gap. With 23 of our films totalling about a dozen hours of high quality non-fiction 3D content we are proud to be part of building the 3D industry in this country."

3D Content Hub supplies films to other clients in China as well and will be an official partner at the 3D Expo in Beijing. Torsten continues "We are already working on more project including producing in China and co-producing with Chinese partners as we expect a strong demand for local content" says Hoffmann who published a book on the media industry in China two years ago.
