Wimbledon Tennis Championships will return in 3D
Speaking at the Creating New 3D Experiences event at MIPCOM today, David Bush, Marketing Director of Sony Professional Solutions Europe, confirmed Sony have committed to producing the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in 3D for at least three years.
After receiving positive feedback from the trial 3D broadcast of the 125th Wimbledon Tennis Championships this summer, the uptake was strong enough to commission another three years of broadcasting.
With 2011's tournament shown in 175 cinemas live across 22 countries, and 10 broadcast networks, the feedback from the public was considered strong enough to extend the partnership. Filmed with six 3D mirror rigs and several standard 2D HD spots for filler conversions, the Men's and Women's Semis, along with the Men's Final, proved to be a popular content choice for cinemas wanting to drive 3D as a medium.
