For the first time, the Queen will deliver her Christmas message in 3D
She will make history as she becomes the first Royal to appear in 3D in her Christmas Day speech. Her annual message was recorded by 3D cameras on Friday by BSkyB and it will be made available to BBC and ITV viewers. It is unlikely ITV will broadcast the 3D version but one can expect the BBC will be screening the 3D edition on the BBC HD channel.
It won't be the first time the Queen has appeared in the third dimension. Film makers Bob Angell and Arthur Wooster, pioneered a 3D camera rig to film a 3D colour newsreel they named 'Royal Review' back in 1953. It included footage of the Queen attending a variety of Royal engagements in the weeks leading up to and after the Coronation.
There was speculation that the Kate and William wedding would have been filmed in 3D although it was decided that the 3D rigs would have taken up too much space.
