Eurosport Launches Weekly 3D Show on 3DS
Pan European sports broadcasting group Eurosport has announced a free 3D sports show for Nintendo’s popular glasses free 3D console.
From today, 3DS owners can watch sporting action and funny sporting outtakes extracted from Eurosport’s WATTS programme in 3D. Each show will be two to three minutes long and can be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop to a dedicated Eurosport player.
The weekly 3D sports show will continue on a weekly basis over the next year.
Laurent Fischer, managing director, marketing & PR at Nintendo of Europe, said: “We are always striving to bring fun and exciting new content to our fans and this new partnership with Eurosport will do just that. We are looking forward to launching the WATTS videos each week along with a host of other 3D content on Nintendo Video ™ from our various partners.”
"The 3D clips from WATTS, one of Eurosport's most established programmes, are guaranteed to engage and entertain Nintendo 3DS users," says Heather Bowler, Global Communications Director, Eurosport . "Eurosport and Nintendo are both leaders within their industries so there is a natural brand fit with this collaboration, which will extend our reach within an important target audience."
Nintendo are keen to push the 3DS's video playback functionality and are forming partnerships with content providers. Aardman Animations are producing an exclusive series in association with 3D Revolution productions for the console. BSkyB continue to deliver highlights of programmes featured on the Sky 3D channel for marketing purposes and Red Bull Media are re-purposing some of its catalogue for the 3DS.
Despite negative headlines over the past several months and a huge price cut soon after launch, the Nintendo 3DS is currently enjoying strong sales, and is almost sold out in the UK. Nintendo recently released an update to enable the 3DS to be used as a 3D video recorder.
