Horse of the Year Show to be Broadcast in 3D
For the first time, equestrian enthusiasts will be able to enjoy highlights from the National Show Jumping Championships in 3D.
The Sky Sports production, which will also be simulcast on Sky Sports HD4, will also include Dressage competitions (regarded as the highest expression of horse training), and the high jumping Puissance contests from the show’s weekend finale.
John Cassy, Director of Sky 3D commented: “'Horse of the Year Show in 3D will give audiences a totally fresh perspective on the art of show jumping. It will give viewers a greater sense of the incredible skill and control the riders need to win this event than ever before.”
Sky Sports have even worked with the National Show Jumping Championships to create a new jump to take advantage of the increased depth of field stereoscopic filming offers.
Chief Executive of British Showjumping, Iain Graham said, “Screening the event in 3D is a wonderful occasion for the sport and a fantastic opportunity for viewers to witness this prestigious event.”
Sport programming continues to play a key role in 3D for television. We have had 3D rugby, tennis, golf, darts, football and now equestrianism; no doubt the Olympic Broadcast Services will be watching closely to evaluate how to deliver the most effective 3D coverage next year.
The event finale will be aired live on the Sky 3D channel on Saturday October 8 at 20.30 and Sunday October 9 at 20.00. It will also be simulcast in high definition on Sky Sports HD4. For more information visit www.sky.com/3D
