Start up puts a spin on 3D visualisation
Arqball have updated ArqBall Spin – an IOS application that creates interactive 360 degree 3D visualisations, with 3D Labeling.
Shown to the public for the first time at the DEMO conference, ArqBall Spin: 3D Labeling augments labels to 'spins' that rotate with the object and will be made available 'soon'.

Arqball introduced Arqball Spin at the South by Southwest interactive festival in Austin, TX in March 2012. Using a rotating hardware platform and an iPhone or iPad, the Arqball app takes a series of pictures (takes about a minute on an iPhone 4S) and compresses them in a way that can be manipulated 360 degrees. These ‘Spins’ can then be edited, shared and embedded into websites.
The company believes the application could find uses in online commerce (Ebay for example), sharing designs and craft, archaeology, museums, gadgets and food blogging. What is interesting is the data captured with the application could be processed with Inition’s new DepthCatcher software which can convert a 2D scene into full glasses free 3D with just a single-lens camera. This opens up the potential for an application like Arqball Spin to easily capture the data of an object which could then be processed, displayed and manipulated on a glasses free 3D lenticular display.
To create engaging spins, a custom stage is required for a precise rotation rate so Arqball is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funding to tool up for the manufacturing of rotating turntables. Arqball Spin offers both a free and premium level of service to individual consumers along with services tailored to enterprise clients and 3D Labelling will be available soon.
