Electric Sky – Huge Increase of 3D Content Sales During MIPTV
During today's Spotlight on 3D forum at MIPTV 2011, David Pounds, Founder and CEO of Electric Sky said the distribution and production company has enjoyed a 700% increase in sales of programming of its 3D content during this year's market.
In MIPTV 2010, Electric Sky offered its first 3D programming and sold product to 10 customers. This year, they expect to have achieved sales to 60 – 70 customers which consists of networks and VOD platforms but does not include 3D Blu-Ray outlets. One of those customers is the Discovey 3NET channel with a series called Bullproof 3D – a four part one hour reality show/documentary about professional bull riding.
David said that he was unsure whether the same rate of growth would be achieved in MIPTV 2012. He also said that 3D content customers are still paying a premium for 3D content reflecting the higher production costs of a 3D show. Electric Sky's CEO commented that the producers which are currently sitting on their 3D content in the hope they can command higher license fees were taking a big risk saying that as more 3D content hits the market, the chances are license fees will reduce.
Electric Sky current have 10 3D programmes in their catalogue which include some of their own productions. Some these include Mush!: The Great Sled Dog Race, Street Dance Choreographer: The Journey, A 3D Guide To Belly Dancing and Secret Life of the Rainforest.
