3D lifestyle channel attempts to launch in Canada
A Toronto based TV distribution company is applying to get European-wide High TV 3D channel added to its line up
Ethnic Channels Group provides newcomers to the country with TV channels from their native homeland and delivers them directly to viewer’s homes via licensed Canadian satellite and cable providers. The group hopes to get High TV 3D, which offers multiple genres of 3D content, on the air later this year if the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission approves the application.
Ethnic Channels Group CEO Slava Levin is the first to admit that the audience will be small: "It's a niche market. We can do general entertainment programming day in and day out, but that all gets boring. Let's put a little twist on it," he said.
This approach is the first request to broadcast foreign 3D programming in Canada but the challenge will be to convince operators to the carry the channel: "So the plan is obviously to get the channel carried on all of the major cable and satellite platforms with the hopes that their subscribers can enjoy their first 3D channel at home," Levin said.
