Penguins 3D to be released theatrically May 24th(US)

nWave Pictures acquires worldwide distribution rights to Penguins 3D for REALD, IMAX and giant screen 3D
Originally known as The Bachelor King when broadcast on Sky 3D last year, it is the second David Attenborough/Atlantic Productions 3D collaboration after Flying Monsters 3D. The Galileo Digital Entertainment co-production was filmed over a five month period in the sub-Antartic island of South Georgia, and follows the lives of King Penguins.
The Bachelor King 3D was technically challenging, especially as the South Georgia Islands take six days to travel to as illustrated by David Attenborough…
"When selecting a story, and having worked on Flying Monsters 3D I knew how bulky the equipment was. It takes four people to carry – it's very instrumental and it takes three quarters of an hour to change a lens; it's a murderous thing to have. I'm sure in months to come it's going to get smaller but it was not the type of equipment you want to use to try and catch some shy creature unawares. Fortunately, a penguin doesn't care too much about cameras so I thought South Georgia would be a good place to go."
nWave will be offering 40 and 20-minute versions, 3D and 2D, 15-perf./70-mm, and digital in 4K and 2K and it marks an important step for nWave according to chairman Eric Dillens: “This film acquisition marks an important step for our distribution company in our new strategy to provide a continuous flow of stunning and factually accurate films for exhibition in IMAX theatres and digital 3D cinemas at major US and international institutional and entertainment venues.”

The industry premiere of Penguins 3D will be hosted in March 2013 during the Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA) 2013 Film Expo, at Moody Gardens in Galveston (TX).
