3D Focus Visits the 3D Centre, Shepperton Studios
3D Focus TV was kindly invited to visit On Sight’s 3D Centre – a place where stereoscopic camera rigs and edit systems are available for production professionals to get up to speed with 3D production.
On Sight consists of three separate divisions – Axis Films, HD Hire and HD Lab. Axis Films are a major player in 3D production equipment and skills hire with 3D rigs, 3D viewing devices and 3D technicians. They have already completed many high-profile 3D projects including Sky’s 3D ‘24’ promo, Reebok’s 3D Amir Khan promo and the live 3D Rugby Union Calcutta Cup match – the world’s first live 3D sports broadcast. HD Hire offers 3D edit systems, 3D monitors and HD Lab covers 3D projection, 3D editing and 3D dailies.
3D Focus TV recently visited On Sight’s 3D Centre in the exciting environment of Shepperton Studios. Richard shows us how beamsplitter 3D cameras work and explains some of the technical terms used in stereoscopic production. Andy discusses some of the work Axis Films have been working on for Sky’s 3D channel including a documentary featuring meerkats of which 3dfocus.co.uk watched a preview of. The clips we saw were very entertaining and reconfirms natural history programming as a format genuinely enhanced by 3D.
On a slightly different note, a 3D lenticular portrait of the Queen was on display in the 3D Centre (Which you can see in the corner of the video occasionally). It was huge and without doubt the best example of 3D lenticular printing ever!
Anyway, let’s start the 3D Focus TV interview with Axis Films …
